Triumph Scrambler 400 X & 400 XC by our workshop
The Triumph Scrambler 400 Escape preparation developed by our workshop illustrates a complete vision of the modern scrambler: a simple, rugged motorcycle ready to escape from traditional roads. But beyond this preparation, this project has also led to the development of a series ofaccessories dedicated to the Triumph Scrambler 400. Through FCR Accessoriesthese parts have been designed to enable every rider to personalize his or her motorcycle, while enhancing its protection, versatility and adventurous character.

The accessible scrambler transformed into a true escape machine
The new generation of scrambler bikes is undergoing a veritable revival. From neo-retro machines to lightweight adventure bikes, manufacturers are looking for bikes that are accessible, versatile and capable of going off-road.
With the Triumph Scrambler 400 X, the British brand opens a new chapter in the world of modern scramblers. Compact, light and modern, this motorcycle takes its historic scrambler DNA and adapts it to the needs of today’s riders: ease of handling, motoring pleasure and versatility.
At FCR Original, a French motorcycle preparation workshop, we were immediately inspired by this platform. Its well-balanced chassis, modern single-cylinder engine and scrambler design make it an ideal base from which to develop an adventure-oriented motorcycle.
With this in mind, we developed the Triumph Scrambler 400 Escapea preparation designed to reveal the true escapist potential of this motorcycle.
The Triumph Scrambler 400: a modern, versatile scrambler
The Triumph Scrambler 400 has been designed to offer a scrambler capable of adapting to a wide range of uses. It combines comfortable ergonomics, a natural riding position and a chassis robust enough to take it off the asphalt.
At the heart of the bike is the TR-Series 398 cm³ engine, a modern liquid-cooled single-cylinder. The engine develops around 40 hp and generous torque for its class, keeping this scrambler affordable yet offering real riding pleasure.
Acceleration response is progressive, and the torque available at low revs makes this scrambler particularly enjoyable on small roads. This suppleness also means that outings on rolling roads are no problem at all.
Combined with a six-speed gearbox, this engine offers great versatility. It’s ideal for leisurely city driving, taking advantage of secondary roads or exploring the countryside off the main roads.
To accompany this versatility, many riders also choose to equip their bikes with accessories dedicated to the Scrambler 400, such as engine guards, radiator grilles and fork protectors. This equipment enhances the Scrambler’s durability when used on rough roads or trails.

A part-cycle designed for light adventure
The Scrambler 400 benefits from a well-balanced chassis that contributes greatly to its versatility. The 19-inch front wheel enhances the bike’s stability, while the suspension offers sufficient travel to absorb irregularities on the road or track.
The riding position also plays a key role. The wide handlebars, combined with an upright posture, ensure excellent control of the scrambler. This ergonomic design promotes relaxed riding, whether in town or on long rides.
Weighing just 179 kg fully loaded, this scrambler is easy to handle. This lightness contributes greatly to riding pleasure, and reinforces the feeling of freedom that characterizes scramblers.
For those wishing to use their Scrambler 400 on more varied terrain, the addition of certain equipment can enhance the bike’s protection. Accessories such as engine mounts, fork protectors and radiator grilles help protect mechanical components during more adventurous use.
Scrambler 400 X or Scrambler 400 XC: two approaches to adventure
The Scrambler 400 platform is now available in a number of versions, allowing you to explore different interpretations of the modern scrambler. Although these two models share the same technical base, there are some interesting nuances in their philosophy of use.
The Scrambler 400 X is the most versatile version in the range. It’s a scrambler designed for everyday use, capable of getting around town with ease, while offering enough capacity to venture out on back roads or rolling lanes. Its 19-inch front wheel, combined with long-travel suspension, enhances the bike’s stability on uneven surfaces. Ergonomics remain comfortable and accessible, with an upright riding position that makes it easy to grip for a wide range of riders.
The Scrambler 400 XC, meanwhile, is even more adventure-oriented. This version reinforces the Scrambler’s adventurous spirit, with a more exploration-oriented approach to mixed terrain. It features a more off-road-oriented technical package, including spoked rims, often combined with tires more suited to trails, for improved resistance and traction off asphalt.
Both models share the same mechanical base: the TR-Series single-cylinder 398 cm³ engine, developing around 40 hp, combined with a six-speed gearbox. This engine stands out for its availability at low revs and its smoothness, two features particularly appreciated in multi-purpose use combining winding roads and rolling roads.
The chassis remains the same, with a sturdy tubular frame, inverted front suspension and a rear shock absorber offering sufficient travel to absorb uneven terrain. Weighing in at just 179 kg fully loaded, these scramblers are easy to handle and particularly accessible, even for novice riders or those looking for a light, fun bike.
For a preparation workshop like FCR Original, these two versions represent particularly interesting bases. The Scrambler 400 X allows the development of a versatile and elegant scrambler vision, while the Scrambler 400 XC, with its more adventurous orientation, provides an ideal platform for imagining a motorcycle capable of truly escaping traditional roads.

Our vision: a scrambler built to ride
The Scrambler 400 Escape is our interpretation of this platform. This preparation aims to reinforce the bike’s scrambler character while improving its ability to escape from traditional roads.
Rather than radically transforming this scrambler, we chose to work on key elements to reveal its natural potential. The aim is to maintain the machine’s balance while giving it more personality.
The engine can be fitted with an exhaust system developed by FCR Original, as well as a performance air filter. These upgrades deliver a deeper sound and a more expressive engine, while retaining its flexibility.
Ergonomics have also been redesigned to enhance the scrambler’s comfort and control. The cockpit has been simplified and optimized for both road and track use.
The preparation also incorporates various protective elements designed to match the bike’s adventurous spirit.
These include :
- a radiator grille
- from fork protectors
- a motor shoe
- a chain guard
- two exhaust silencers
- a side support kit with bag
- a plate holder with indicators
- from Mini Bates front turn signals
These elements reinforce the Scrambler 400’s robustness, while retaining a minimalist aesthetic faithful to the FCR Original DNA.
A scrambler that grows with its rider
One of the great advantages of the Triumph Scrambler 400 is its ability to grow with its owner.
This scrambler can be configured in many different ways, depending on the intended use. Some riders will prefer an elegant, lightweight road scrambler, ideal for cruising and commuting. Others will prefer a more adventure-oriented configuration, capable of tackling trails and tracks.
The Scrambler 400 Escape has been designed to accompany this evolution. It provides a flexible base that can be adapted to each rider’s vision and desires.
